Out of surgery
Just heard from the good Dr Johnson from AERA and she said Max is doing very well and is in his cage resting. WHEW…at least that part is over, now to the business of healing.

I’ll bet there was a HUGE sigh of relief when you got the vet’s call. Happy he made it through the surgery without complication!

Carmen, it was a HUGE relief. Now I want to go see him but I know that will not be good for him. So, I’ll call again soon just to check on him and hey maybe he will surprise us all and be up and walking around already.

So glad to hear that he came through surgery fine. My Buddy goes into surgery next Tuesday to have his left front leg removed. He to has OS. Such a shock so many hard decisions. Good luck with Max we will all say a doggie prayer for him.

I’m certainly no expert on the matter since Max and I are just starting our journey but I can tell you this…getting to this point has been incredibly difficult. I know my decision to amputate was the best for him, but WOW is all I can say about it!
I’m trying to teach Max how to put up his paw and say “NO” to cancer!!!
I will keep you and Buddy in my thoughts and prayers for next Tuesday. And I’ll post whatever I can about Max’s recovery in hopes you will find something you can use as well.

Good to have that part done! I’m glad he did well. Rest up now before you bring him home- is the house ready for a tripug?

Well Karen, I’m not sure. I’ve carpeted the steps…which I know he is a long way from tackling. I have put runners from his food bowls to his bed in the living room. I am going to set him up in the bottom of my closet…sounds funny, but that’s where he goes whenever I’m in my bedroom and not in my bed. It’s a small confined area and he’s comfortable there. I always have a good supply of food and cookies as he is a pug and can be coaxed easily with them.
Please give me advice as to what more I can do to make this easier for him…I’m willing to do anything.

Sounds like you are ready! I never needed a sling for Mag- she was walking on her own the day of surgery. But- if Max needs some help you can use a towel or reusable grocery bag slit down the sides. I tried raising Maggie’s food dish up a bit- which can help with balance, but she did not like it. She did not eat a whole lot the first couple of weeks anyway.

Wow a pug that didn’t eat a whole lot…is that documented somewhere…LOL!
I bought him a harness that will give me the ability to help him when he’s outside and oddly, I have something for my neck that looks like a sling and has handles on both ends. I’m concerned about wound care, I don’t want him to get an infection after all he’s gone through already.

Thrilled to hear our little buddy came through the surgery so well..he is a trooper that Max! I am excited to see him when he gets home. I will pass the good news on to Joe asap. Give him the biggest smooch from his favorite neighbor <3

Mary, this is probably the best place to find me these days and the ones coming up. I will certainly give Max kisses as soon as they let me see him. I hope…pray this is not too hard for him, but I’m prepared.
